The Kremlin has described more details about Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin’s phone call from yesterday.
The Kremlin Foreign Policy Aide Yuri Ushakov emphasized the warm nature of the conversation and said the two men approached each other by their first name, and Mr. Putin congratulated the US president with the birth of his latest grandson.
“Trump said: Vladimir, you can pick up the phone at any time, I will gladly answer, I will gladly talk to you,” said Mr. Ushakov.

Both leaders said the call was a success in which Putin agreed to work towards a peace deal with Ukraine.

Donald Trump has said that Russia and Ukraine “will immediately start negotiations against a ceasefire and, more importantly, an end to the war,” after talking to Russian President Vladimir Putin yesterday.

Donald Trump has said “It would be great” for Russia and Ukraine to hold a ceasefire conversations in the Vatican and said it would add extra significance to the procedure.
“The Vatican, represented by the Pope, has stated that it would be very interested in hosting the negotiations. Let the process begin!” said the US president.
The Vatican has not yet issued a comment on Trump’s remarks.
Volodymyr Zelensky, who has already met Pope Leo XIV twice now and talked to him on the phone, welcomed the Vatican as a possible place to discuss the end of the war in Ukraine.
“Ukraine is ready for direct negotiations with Russia in any format that brings results,” Mr. Zelensky said at X. He said this could host Turkey, Vatican or Switzerland.
The Vatican has a tradition of diplomatic neutrality and has long offered its services and venues to try to help facilitate lectures.
