President Donald Trump’s increased tariffs on all US steel and aluminum imports are now in effect, which intensifies a campaign to reshape the global trade that has already led to rapid retaliation from Europe.
The European Commission responded immediately, saying it would impose a $ 28 billion opposition to US items from next month.
The countries most affected by the charges are Canada – the largest foreign supplier to the United States – Brazil, Mexico and South Korea. Wednesday morning, Canada with C $ 29.8 million ($ 20 billion) responded in retaliatory tasks on US products.
Meanwhile, the Senate Democrats refuse to support the GOP bill that could finance the government through September, minority leader Chuck Schumer said Wednesday.
This means that a shutdown of the government may be imminent as this weekend’s financing deadline is approaching. Schumer has instead approved a shorter measure proposed by Democrats who could also avoid a shutdown.
“The financing of the government should be a bipartisan effort, but Republicans chose a party trail that drafted their continued decision without input – any input – from congress Democrats,” Schumer said.
Earlier this week, house Republicans voted to promote the financing measure to the Senate. Representative Thomas Massie was the only Republican to vote against it.
