Sheffield Wednesday accused of not paying players as EFL sounds warning

Sheffield Wednesday is indicted by EFL for “More violations” regarding the club’s payment obligations.

In March, the championship club failed to pay players their salaries on time because of what was described as “cash flow” questions.

It has since been reported that there were also problems with payments for May – which are also said to have included non -playing club staff and other employees.

EFL described the situation as “clearly about”, with the governing body “considering all available options”.

On Tuesday, EFL subsequently confirmed that the formal action had now been initiated.

“Sheffield Wednesday Football Club is indicted for several violations of EFL regulations regarding payment obligations,” read a statement from EFL.

“The owner of Sheffield on Wednesday, Dejphon Chansiri, is also accused of making the club be in violation of the EFL rules despite his commitment to funding the club’s cash demands.

“All fees relate to both the ultimate beneficial owner and the club that does not meet their obligations to pay the players’ salary on time and fully in March and May 2025.

“The club and Mr Chansiri have 14 days to respond to the charges.”

Wednesday ended 12. In the championship – and manager Danny Rohl has been linked to a movement away during the summer.

The club later issued a statement in which Chansiri offered his “sincere excuses” to anyone who had been affected with a decision that was sought “on the earliest possible option”.
