Peter Mandelson says Trump should expect ‘hot reception’ on full state visit in UK later in the year

Peter Mandelson says Donald Trump should expect a “hot reception” when he visits Britain on his second state visit later this year.

Britain’s ambassador to Washington said the US president “really loves Britain” and “enormously admires it” in an interview with The Sunday Times.

“He trusts Keir Stormmer. It’s not a matter of expressing our gratitude. My Lodstar here is to demonstrate respect, not sycophancy. I don’t think the administration has any problem with it,” the 71-year-old veteran politician told the newspaper.

With reference to Mr. Trump as a “phenomenon” and a “unique politician” Lord Mandelson said the couple has met several times when Labor Grandee formed a strong relationship with the president’s chief of staff, Susie Wiles.

Earlier this year, the US president accepted the invitation of King Charles for an unprecedented second state visit to Britain earlier this year and became the first US president to receive the honor.

It is reportedly that it will probably take place during the political party season, in September, and therefore Trump does not get the opportunity to get an address to MPs and peers in parliament.

Mr. Trump is also not expected to visit Buckingham Palace or enjoy a ceremonial carriage ride down the mall in London.

But still media reports have suggested that the Labor government is on duty against protests.

Lord Mandelson told Sunday times“He should expect a hot reception because he really loves Britain. He admires it tremendously.”

He added: “He is a more nuanced figure than people appreciate. Look, he is not only a unique politician – he will also be one of the most consequent presidents in American history.

“He has this sense of history, this grasp of power, which I think maybe recent residents of the White House have not quite seen. He is not a man for endless seminars and thinking. He is not a victim of analysis paralysis.

“He has a very quick, easy way to grab the core points on a question. And let’s be honest: More often than not there is a core of truth in everything he says.”

The independent revealed earlier this year that Mr. Trump had considered rejecting Lord Mandelson as ambassador before his appointment six months ago.

Lord Mandelson’s biggest performance so far in his new post was the British US Trade Agreement, signed in May, which saw duty on car imports of 100,000 a year reduced from 27.5 percent to 10 percent.

A baseline duty of 10 percent remains in place for most other imports.

In the interview with The Sunday Times, Lord Mandelson suggested that the agreement would not have been possible if the United Kingdom had been part of the European Union.

The disposable Europhile added that although the United Kingdom had lost much by leaving the EU, it got the “positive” as the chance “to make this deal”.
