A mother and her two young daughters out on a trip were killed after a terrible car accident in New York, allegedly caused by a woman driving with a suspended license.
The woman’s four -year -old son was also beaten during the incident and was brought to the hospital in critical condition. Police said 10 people in total were injured.
The incident took place around 1 p.m. 13 Saturday in the Midwood area in Brooklyn after a Toyota Camry was hit from behind by a blue Audi A3 on a set of lights, according to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch.
The effect of the crash caused Toyota to be pushed aside before the other vehicle crashed into the family-the 35-year-old woman, her two daughters, eight and six and the young boy and overturned.
“The smell, I heard it was like an earthquake,” a witness said New York Post. “It went for about 30 seconds. It felt as if the world stopped the second.”
According to Post, The dead woman’s husband was home with their infant when the crash happened and was informed of the tragedy by a neighbor.
The driver was identified as 32-year-old Miriam Yarimi, who was supposed to be carved out of his vehicle after the collision.
It was later confirmed that Yarimi had run on a suspended license at the time of the collision. She was also taken to the hospital and is in a steady state, Tisch said at a press conference on Saturday afternoon.
She added that the light sequence at the time of the incident was not yet known and that the speed “certainly may have been a factor.” Yarimi was also breathing on stage.
“I want to call it as it is,” Tisch said. “This was a terrible tragedy caused by someone who shouldn’t have been on the road. A mother and two young children killed, another child who fought for his life, a family and a neighborhood destroyed in a moment.
“NYPD sends his condolance to the victims’ family. May their memories be a blessing.”
The 62-year-old driver of Toyota Camry, who had served as Uber, was taken to Coney Island Hospital and was also reported to be in stable state. The vehicle’s four passengers, one adult and three children, were treated for minor injuries.
New York Mayor Eric Adams said the incident was a “tragic accident with Shakespearic relationship.”
“This is extreme about and painful, not only for the city of New York in general, but specifically for a very close knit society,” he said, talking at the press conference as well.
“A mother who had gone after a simple stroll on a sunny day was hit and killed when we pray for their families and this whole community. The city mourns this loss … This was a meaningless tragedy and we pray for everyone involved.”
