Emily in Paris Star Camille Razat has explained why she doesn’t return to the show’s fifth season.
In the first season of the Netflix series, Razat’s character, also called Camille, becomes a guide to Emily (portrayed by Lily Collins), an American marketing manager who has just moved to Paris. Their friendship continues to have a few challenges where Emily develops feelings for Camille’s girlfriend, Gabriel (Lucas Bravo).
All of this leads to a messy love triangle that becomes more complicated as the seasons continue. Often Camille was considered the “villain” for how she sabotaged Emily’s relationship with Gabriel.
Last week, Razate’s name was especially absent from Netflix’s list of recurring role crew.
In a statement sent to The independent On TuesdayAt Razat clarified his decision to leave the show.
“After an incredible journey I have made the decision to go away from Emily in Paris. It’s been a really wonderful experience – a full of growth, creativity and unforgettable memories, ”Razat said.
“I am deeply grateful for the Darren Star and the whole team at Netflix and Paramount for their confidence and to give me the opportunity to bring Camille to life and leave the door open for her return as she will always be part of Emily in Paris world. This character has meant a lot to me and I feel that her story is obviously over. It felt like the right moment to explore new horizons. ”
She added: “I leave the show with nothing but love and admiration for the role crew, the crew and fans who have supported us along the way. Thanks for the beautiful trip.”

Her departure follows four seasons as a series regular on the show.
During the fourth season, Camille deals with the wake of calling his wedding to Gabriel after realizing that he still has feelings for Emily. Camille is also pregnant with her child and causes friction in his relationship with Emily.
In the last episode of the season, however, she learns that she had a fake pregnancy and is trying to convince Gabriel to adopt a child. Gabriel ultimately rejects the idea and Camille moves out of his apartment.

Season five will include Emily and some of her ex-boyfriend, including Gabriel and Alfie (portrayed by Lucien Laviscount). On the show’s role crew list is Emily’s new Italian love interest Marcello, portrayed by Eugenio Franceschini. The season begins in Rome after Emily and Marcello’s romance.

Meanwhile, Ashley Park, who plays Emily’s best friend Mindy, returns to season five with Filipino Leroy-Beaulieu, who plays Emily’s boss Sylvie. Antoine Lambert, Bruno Gounery and Samuel Arnold, who all play characters working with Emily, also return.
Although the details of season five remain during wrapping, Black Reports that it will pick up days after Emily moves to Rome for his luxury marketing company’s Italian office. The other half of the season is shot in Paris.
During an interview with Netflix’s Tudum In September, Collins talked about Emily’s new romantic interest.
“Marcello is a completely different adventure that we want for Emily, because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work/life balance,” she said. “We want Emily to smile without condition. We want to see her beyond her Vakay mode. And he’s coming at the perfect time.”
Darren Star, the creator of the series, said that Emily’s move to Rome to run the new office was born from a desire to “stay in front of the audience and take them to unexpected places” and prove that “the show has the ability to have a bigger footprint.”
He also said that fanfavorit Gabriel is still in the picture since season four ended with him realizing he made a mistake of breaking up with Emily. However, Marcello will certainly be a strong competitor to Emily’s heart.
“I feel they have a real spark and a real connection and a really romantic connection. Much of it will continue to play out next season,” Star added.
