Barry Keoghan admitted that he is a “addicted” in an honest new interview touching his troubled upbringing.
The 32-year-old Irish actor’s mother died when he was 12 because of a heroin addiction, and Keoghan and his brother spent the subsequent years of their childhood in and out of nursing homes around Dublin.
In an interview with Hollywood authenticAt the Saltburn Actor visited one of his childhood houses. “I remember being kids here and hearing my mother screaming through the letterbox and asked for us as she fights for addiction while looking for money to score. And we were just told to stay in bed. We shouldn’t go down and hug her,” he said.
Despite his mother’s struggle, Keoghan admitted that his “curiosity” was getting better by him.
“My father died as a result of the like and I lost my mother to it. I’ve lost two uncles and a cousin to drugs. It should be enough to go, ‘OK if I dabble here I’m fucked.’ But your curiosity is a powerful thing, ”he said.
“Sometimes it’s advantageous, and sometimes it’s harmful. For me it was harmful. Even my own son who came into this world did not prevent me from being curious.”
KEOGHAN is a father of the two-year-old son Brando, whom he greeted with his ex-partner Alyson in August 2022.
However, he clarified, “I am not in denial anymore. I understand that I have an addiction and I am a dependent. You know when you accept it, you can finally go ahead and learn to work with it.”
KEOGHAN has long been obvious about his childhood in interviews.
During a performance on James Corden’s This life of me Podcast last year discussed the actor how the fetal care system “begins to affect you as you grow up.”
“I had a lot of trouble with confidence, never trust in love, never trust that someone would know me, or let’s say, be a friend, for example,” he said.

“You don’t trust the process of anything,” KEOGHAN continued. “You have a problem of attachment and leave, all these things that I have been working on for many years with more therapists.”
In 2023, KEOGHAN earned a best supportive actor nomination on Oscars for his role as Dominic Kearney in Martin McDonagh’s Dark Comedy, Banshees from Inisherin. He continued to win the BAFTA prize for the role.
