Alaska -Flying Creator Updates: Two victims named as herds rush to get rid of the 10 killed

Officials are still searching for information on why a Bering Air aircraft fell off radar and then crashed Thursday during a flight between Unalakleet and Nome.

“This aircraft experienced a kind of event that caused them to experience a rapid loss of height and a rapid loss in speed,” Ben McIntyre-Coble said with the US Coast Guard Friday.

“You know it’s February in Alaska and the weather hasn’t been fantastic,” he added.

This week’s plane crash in Alaska is the latest in a series of freak accidents across American skies this year.

Rescue herds are hard at work to regain the bodies of 10 people killed when a Bering Air Jet crashed into the rural Alaska during a storm this week.

“The effort continues this morning in our weather window to bring Bering Air passengers and crew home today,” Nome Volunteer Fire Department wrote in an updated Saturday on Facebook.

Snow, coals and strong winds are expected later today.

National Weather Service warns of dangerous weather that could last through Sunday in the area near where the Bering Air flight crashed, including snow, ice and wind throw as high as 45 km / h.

“Travel could be very difficult,” the agency wrote in a forecast. “Areas with blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.”

Gales -warnings will be in effect on Norton Sound, which begins later tonight.

Authorities have not named all those lost in Bering Air Crash on Thursday, but the residents of the small towns around Alaska’s Norton Sound support the news.
