Anti-racism demonstrants have marched through Epping in a show of solidarity with refugees when tension is mounted over a hotel used to house asylum seekers.
Campaigns from Stand Up to Racism gathered outside the Epping train station on Sunday afternoon, before marroing to the Bell Hotel.
The protesters sang “Refugees are welcome here” and “If Streets? Our Streets” as they drove through the Essex city.
The protesters, some carry posters that said “Stop scapegoating refugees and migrants,” together with volunteer security staff after a series of violent protests in recent weeks.
Local residents saw from their driveways as the march passed as members of the group were seen trying to stop people filming the protesters.
“We are happy to demonstrate, but we are not happy to be attacked by thugs, racists and hooligans,” said Weyman Bennett, co-convent of stand up to racism.
A separate group of protesters, some waving union flags, gathered near the Bell Hotel, which has been at the center of the protests, which were caused after an asylum seeker was indicted for sexual assault by a 14-year-old girl.
Police confirmed that three people were arrested during the protest and counter -protest.
A 52-year-old man from Loughton was arrested on suspicion of a public order violation. It is understood that the arrest was in connection with the fact that abuse was shouted at counter -protectors.
A 53-year-old woman, also from Loughton, was arrested on suspicion of a racially worsening public order violation associated with a previous protest, and it is understood that she was part of the protest against the use of the hotel.
A 27-year-old woman from Deptford was arrested on suspicion of criminal injury and an offense of public order, and it is understood that she was part of the counter-protest.
The Essex police have introduced strict measures to limit violence and suffering according to what the Essex police described as an “escalation of violence” during protests since last week.
These measures include a ban on carrying face coatings, appointed protest sites opposite the hotel and a spreading order in place from noon Sunday until 1 p.m. 8 Monday, covering the center of Epping and nearby transport nodes.
The strength said the residents have reported to be “caught”, afraid of leaving their homes and eagerly after continuous protest activity.
Hotel residents and staff have been asked to remain indoors after 17:00 after incidents with harassment, including a resident of the hotel chased and wounded.
The Essex police added that officers had been assaulted and missiles were thrown. The hotel also maintained broken windows and graffiti during previous protests, the force said.
The force said on Saturday that two more men have been indicted and will appear in court after the suffering.
Lee Gower, 43, from High Street, Epping, was indicted for violent suffering and assault by beating an emergency on July 17.
Joshua Meadows, 18, from Sunnyside Road, Epping, was indicted for not removing an item carried and possession of cannabis on July 24.
It comes after 10 people were indicted in relation to the suffering, the Essex police said.
Meanwhile, there was a peaceful protest outside a hotel that allegedly housed migrants in Bowthorpe near Norwich on Saturday.
Norfolk -Police arrested two men in their 20s on suspicion of dews after demonstrations outside hotels in Diss and Bowthorpe last week.
There have also been protests outside the Britannia Hotel in Canary Wharf, which is supposed to be used to offer temporary accommodation for asylum seekers.
The Epping Protest was triggered by the charging of asylum seeker Hadush Gerberslasie Kebatu, 38, with sexual assault after he allegedly tried to kiss a 14-year-old girl.
He denied the charges at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court and will ask trial in August.
Essex police chief Superintendent Simon Anslow said: “I would like to thank those who participated in both protests.
“Our role is to ensure that you can express your democratic right to protest safely and legally, and we had a proportionate and robust plan to make sure it could happen.
“I am glad that today has gone without incident and I am our colleagues grateful from other forces for their support.”
Weyman Bennett, Co-Convener of Stand Up to Racism, said PA News Agency that volunteer security personnel accompanied them.
He added: “We are happy to demonstrate, but we are not happy to be attacked by thugs, racists and hooligans.”
